Besides the medicinal properties of this oil, it is used in soaps, toothpaste, skin care products, as well as hair care products. Usage has also shown a lot of positive results in curing many skin diseases in humans as well as pets.


The oil is beneficial for a dog's health in many ways. It helps to keep ticks, fleas, and parasites away, boosts the immune system, and promotes healthy teeth, skin, and a shiny and problem-free coat.

Topical Usage
This oil is also very effective to get rid of fleas. You can use it safely as it has no harmful effects. However, do not use too much. It is necessary to check with your veterinarian about the recommended amount, if your dog has lot of fleas on its coat. Make sure you use raw oil and not a refined one. You can use it with shampoos, sprays, and soaps.

Cleaning Ears
It is very important to keep your dog's ears clean. If not, there can be many diseases that might cause severe problems. There are many insects, fleas, ticks that hide deep in the furry areas of the ears which are difficult to treat. Before using neem oil for the ears, make sure you have cleaned the ears properly by removing or wiping the dirt with wet cotton. The oil can prevent re-infestation. Apply diluted oil to the furry ear edges. Do not apply on the inner area of the ear skin as this can irritate the dog, as this oil is strong. You can dilute it with almond or olive oil too.

Use with Shampoos
Dog shampoos with neem oil are effective, and work extremely well for flea and tick control. Since neem is known for its insecticidal properties, giving your dog a bath with its shampoo will help to get rid of all these skin problems. This shampoo is safe even if you use it often. Reducing unnecessary loss of fur, preventing skin diseases, strengthening and improving the fur coat, etc., are some of the benefits of shampoos containing this oil. Here is a simple recipe to make pet shampoo. Mix around 5ml of neem oil to 100ml of regular shampoo that you use for your dog.

Neem soap for dogs are also available in the market. This helps to treat scabies, viruses, or other yeast infections, and skin rashes. This soap is gentle and safe.

Neem Spray
The oil can also be used as a spray, and they are easy to make. All you will need is 1 gallon of water, 1½ tablespoons liquid soap, and a tablespoon of neem oil. First heat 1 gallon of water in a container. The water should be warm and not hot. Now mix the liquid soap in the warm water and add the oil to it. Keep stirring this mixture for about 5 minutes. Now pour this solution in a spray bottle and use. Make sure that you use this spray immediately after you prepare it. This spray is usable for a maximum of 8 hours after it is made.

Neem oil is an easy and effective way to treat skin infections in dogs. The effect of this oil might vary in every dog. Using the oil internally is not recommended though. So use this oil in the right way to keep your dogs healthy and happy.
