If you want to keep a pet dog and are confused as to which breed to opt for, you can surely consider the Boston terrier mix―a.k.a., the 'American Gentleman'. The story of the Boston terrier is that, a male part English bulldog-part English terrier was bred with a female bulldog and their offspring was today's mix. This dog was further bred with many other breeds to give rise to respective offspring, including the American terrier, Boston bulldog, and the Bullet head.
Though the dog is one of the non-sporting types, there are a variety of colors and markings which help distinguish it from other similar looking terrier breeds. These dogs are small and compact with a short tail and erect ears, and are often found in colors like black, brindle, or seal with white markings.
What's in the Mix?
There are certain traits of this breed which are dominant, no matter who they are mixed with. These dogs are friendly, intelligent, and very lively; always eager to please their owners. They can be easily trained, as they were originally bred for fighting and companionship. The modern Boston terrier can be gentle, alert, expressive, and well-mannered. Their limbs are strong and stout, head is in proportion to the body, and the tail is very small (as good as non-existent). They have an average lifespan of 13 years, but they can live for more than that. It is very easy to recognize the breed, as it has white markings on the front part of its body and one white strap on the face running down from the nose.
There are many pure breeds which are mixed with the Boston terrier to develop a new breed. Usually, the resultant breed has the appearance as well as habits of both the parents. In some cases though, the puppies may have some similarities to either one of the parents, and in rare cases, there are absolutely no similarities in either the appearance or habits of the offspring.
